It will slow things down! We have an open compost heap, and the material going in consists of shredded prunings, lawn mowings, and vegetable peelings carefully kept separate from any trace of meat. It isn't a problem for us, because we only occasionally want to USE any compost, and we think the slow-worms hibernate there slow-composting shredded material keeps warm.
